Generosity - Become a Force for Good in the World

Generosity

Generosity is an action that springs from our Basic Goodness. When we are in touch with our essential nature, we know that we are “Good”, and it is that good which we share with others in acts of generosity. In its truest form, generosity does not “keep score” or expect anything in return. Like love, true generosity is self-less. It is this absence of self that makes generosity fearless and therefore a powerful force for good in the world.

Generosity can be expressed in many forms, such as:

  • donations of money or food, clothing

  • wishes and prayers for others to be free of suffering

  • offering help tie people in need

  • really listening to another

  • sending a smile to a stranger

  • choosing to forgive someone and let go of any ill will

Think of how generous the earth is to us, all that it gives in terms of food, beauty, an environment that supports our health and survival.

Even a flower is generous in sharing its beauty, color, fragrance and pollen for the bees and butterflies.

Trees are generous in providing shade in the heat and producing fruits.

And of course, the sun is generous, beaming its rays of warmth, light and life-giving energy to the earth.

The following is a beautiful quote from Richard Rudd, author of the Gene Keys, a highly recommended book about embracing your higher purpose:

Will you be remembered as a giver or a taker?

Remembered not by other people but by cosmic intelligence by the laws of karma. Ask yourself what is the most I can do to really create positive and lasting change on this planet during this lifetime? What is the most I could do? This is the siddhi of invisibility. (Siddhi refers to soul quality). Create vast ripples of awakening to influence all life to thrive but without anyone seeing you doing it. Only you and the Gods know what you’ve done. You don’t have to wait for sometime in the future. You can begin right now.

Ways to be generous

The smallest and most insignificant act of selflessness reaches out into the cosmos with tendrils of light that touch the far corners of reality. This is the power of invisible change. You can change the entire cosmos but only through the selfless act, the selfless thought, the selfless word. And it takes time and patience.

We actually have all the powers of the cosmos at our fingertips if we would but realize it. The power of invisibility can show us the most efficient way to have the greatest impact. The forces of the cosmos know that the most effective way to change is that which is right in front of you now. There are vast forces in the universe that are literally waiting for us to engage them. The forces of grace. Great changes are made up of many, many tiny changes, invisible changes. It operates in the world without others realizing it. It’s reward is utter surrender into the benevolence of the one. We should all do well to think about this siddhi.

Contemplate how to be an invisible force for good.

Be the Good

Really contemplate that. How to avoid the limelight. How to use the magician’s trick to have the light fall on someone else, someone who needs it and then smile secretly to yourself. You did this! No one else will ever know it but you and the Lords of Karma. The true master has his own reasons for doing or saying things. So contemplate divine pride, breathe the breath of the Buddhas into your heart, see yourself as immense, see yourself as a God, moving behind the scenes, orchestrating goodness and love, making yourself invisible. Don the cloak of invisibility. Even the smallest selfless acts are magical acts. Go out into the world and make a difference. Make this lifetime really matter. Let it shine your light out into the eons influencing the past or the future. Within each of us…invisible…waiting, waiting, just waiting.

~ Richard Rudd, Mystic and Author of The Gene Keys

I love stories about people anonymously paying someone’s grocery bill when they can’t afford it. Think of ways that you can be generous and give what you can with whatever resources you have. It doesn’t have to take much of your energy, but can make someone’s day, lighten their mood, help them remember that humans are basically good, and the Universe has their back. For example, being generous to other drivers whilst on the freeway doesn’t cost anything, but can have so many obvious benefits.

In addition, being generous is good for you, helps you feel good about yourself and happier that you made someone’s day a little better.
